The town of Whitby is a fishing port on the North Eastern Yorkshire coast.
Famous for its associations with Captain Cook as well as Bram Stoker's "Dracula", Whitby is a popular destination for tourists visiting the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Coast.
Popular tourist attractions in Whitby itself include the Captain Cook Memorial Museum and Whitby Abbey (which can be reached by a steep climb up steps from the harbour).
Nearby places to visit include the quaintly red roofed fishing villages of Robin Hood's Bay and Staithes, while not far off inland is the village of Goathland (famous as "Aidensfield" in the popular TV series of "Heartbeat") and the North York Moors. [N.B. Trains from the North York Moors Railway also terminate at Whitby on some dates through the season.]
